How to Connect 2 Motherboards Together?

How to Connect 2 Motherboards Together?

If you are using a PC for quite some time now, you might have thought about how to connect two motherboards together. The work from home has really changed the working approach. And, if the work demands powerful and robust processing it becomes pivotal to get the multiple mobos in sync!

As you know, the motherboard is the major circuit board that ensures the communication and information between other components such as RAM, CPU, seamlessly hence more bother indicate is supreme power towards task execution.

The important thing to note before opting for the sync connection between two motherboards is the working approach. As for now, there isn’t any game available in the market that runs on the use of two processors simultaneously.

Therefore when you connect two motherboards with each other it’s quite apparent that either of them will remain idle for gaming. However for regular tasks it will work smoothly.

Before knowing whether or not you can connect 2 mobos together or if yes how, it’s important to know what is the latest motherboard offering you.

Is it possible to Connect Two Motherboards Together?

Yes it is possible provided that both boards feature Ethernet so that the crossover wire becomes achievable. For serial port you will need a null modem cable. If your concern is to boost the processing power, then software like VMWare ESXi helps to configure that.

Recent motherboard and their offering

  • Many motherboards come with the CPU slots that easily welcome multiple processors within its slots.
  • Also you get the memory slots for expansion or upgrade. It comes with the DIMM, DRAM chip, DDR3, DDR4 or DDR5 depending on the choice of your motherboard and its manufacturing.
  • A non-volatile memory.

Connecting Two Motherboards Together

Running two motherboards as a multi-computer makes your system more like a server setup. In addition to that, for office and more robust working performance connecting motherboard ‘as one’ is more like a need. You can get the final result more optimal that is operated via single screen and single keyboard, obviously!

To make the process practice you need a dedicated adapter. Plus there are many internal functions that are essential to operate in order to configure the operation smoothly. There is good news. Even though connecting motherboards together sounds like a technical thing while it is quite simple to do so. You don’t really have to be a techie. Motherboards with dual CPU help a lot to get to the premium output.

So Here How You Do It

1.      All motherboards have BIOS along with an IDE controller, an AGP / PCI controller, a Southbridge and Northbridge controller and many more to communicate with the processor. Hence for getting two motherboards in sync state look up to the CPU for smooth communication between each component to the other circuit board.

2.      Certainly the motherboard cannot work unless you power it. And for making the connectivity between other boards you will be requiring PSU (power supplies). If both of the motherboards are featuring Ethernet, use the crossover cable. However, for serial ports go for empty modem cable. Now connect the computer into the power outlet, also connect the network adapter and place it beside.

3.      After that connect the one end of the Ethernet crossover cable to the Ethernet port whereas the other end into that very computer (motherboard) you want to get connection with and then reverse to the adapter.

4.      At this point, connect the cable from your PC monitor to the display cable connector at the rear side of the adapter. However if you want, connect the keyboard cable to the keyboard cable’s port on the adapter’s backside.

Now turn on the computer and get the display and control from a single keyboard!
