How to Reboot Laptop? A Detailed Guide

Rebooting a laptop sounds like a highly detailed or rather complex thing when you are hearing it for the first time, doesn’t it? However, it is pretty much like that of restarting it.

In fact, to ease down this knotty term, all the words such as power cycle, soft reset, restart means the same and that is_ you guessed it right,

‘Reboot’!

Rebooting gives things a fresh start-over and hence every PC or laptop user should know how to reboot a laptop! PC or laptop rebooting is something that comes with multiple benefits. It is a pretty apparent and understandable thing that removing the glitches or giving a fresh start to the RAM means a lot to the PC as a whole.

However, there are some concerns that as a newbie may come into your mind such as how often you should reboot your laptop, or will it damage your precious data within the laptop or not?

In this article we shall discuss all this and give you a jargon-free answer to this and you will come across with the step-by-step guide to rebooting your laptop.  But first, let me know the booting process.

Here is how you should do it!

Rebooting laptop on Windows 8 or 10

There are majorly two methods to reboot the laptop. The detailed one (which only has few steps) and the quick one, let’s check out the detailed one first:

 The first one is;

how to restart a laptop

  • On your laptop, move the cursor to the left bottom side of the screen, a task bar should open.
  • Click the Windows icon and open up the Start Menu.
  • Now move the cursor towards the power icon and you will see the list of open will appear listing as Restart, Sleep, and Shut down. Click the Restart button and you’re done.

The second one is;

restart a laptop

  • Press ‘Alt’ + ‘F4 key’ simultaneously on the keyboard, and a window should pop up on your laptop screen.
  • From the given options (Restart, Sleep, and Shut down, switch user, sign out) select the restart option and that is it. However, you can also sign out. And after that your laptop will auto on after it’s done with restarting itself. It should take a few moments depending on your PC configuration or performance.

Hard Reboot To The Laptop

That was the soft reboot, and if you are looking up for a rather intense or serious rebooting of your laptop there is another method which is pretty much similar to the aforementioned one.

  • Firstly go to the taskbar and open the Start menu there.
  • Now, if you look at the right corner upside down on your screen, you will see a power button there. Simply hover the cursor there and you will see the list of options including restart, shut down etc.
  • Click on the ‘’Shutdown’ button’’ this time and your laptop will shut down in a few minutes.

Another method

At times your system becomes stuck and nothing works. You can neither click nor press any key. In such a scenario, you have to opt for a rather hard reboot which is unlike the aforementioned methods.

  • Hold the laptop’s power button till you the display screen becomes blank and the lights shut down.
  • After that, wait for a few minutes and then press the power button again. By now, your laptops should turn on.

Reminder!

Do not hard reboot your laptop or PC so frequently. It can ultimately damage its performance and components. It’s a rather intense way to reboot and should only be performed when your laptop freezes and nothing works. Also check why that happens?

When should I reboot my system?

This is a pretty sane question that almost every tech user might have thought about at some point of using technology or the gear that features a rebooting option.

However, talking specifically about the laptop, there is not a hard and fast rule, to be honest. For instance if you reboot the laptop continually or often it’s a good idea.

Once in a day is a good approach to keep rebooting the laptop as an approach. But make sure not to reboot after every short interval like immediately or when you have just powered on the laptop. It may cause power issues!

Perks of Rebooting laptop or PC

  • Fast and efficient performance
  • Clear temporary files in RAM and enhances speed
  • Keep off computer cobweb from forming
  • Correct software glitches
  • Prevents memory halt leakage

When is the ideal time to reboot the laptop?

Apart from making the speed or performance better, there are times when you definitely should look up to reboot your laptop. For example, if your laptop is:

  • Running hot

Hiked up temperature is a slight indication to reboot your laptop and make things favorable back.

  • Fan is crying loud

Another crucial factor for rebooting is the laptop fan is running louder than usual or it has problems with smooth movement. Rebooting will solve that as well.

  • Subjected to a software update

The software update is something that itself asks you to restart the laptop in order to completely get into the new and updated system of it. if you have updated the software or installed a software that is linked with the system performance, you better reboot the laptop.

  • Having a new hardware

If you have added RAM or installed or replaced the SSD or HDD to the laptop. It is also a time to reboot it for proper analysis of the new component.

  • Crash

Sudden crashes, freezing of screen or hanging for no reason may be a sign of either too much load at the same time or beyond the reach of the RAM process. Whatever the reason may be, reboot it and free your laptop from unwanted freezes.

Although there are many other reasons for rebooting such as when an application isn’t opening, or the screen is frozen taking way too long to restore, it is always better to know the reason for malfunctioning or poor performance of your laptop.

Keep your system high-end and then reboot it if necessary. After all it’s just another name of reloading, nothing to be scared of!
