Motherboard Temperature High? Causes and Ways to Fix It

It is said that a motherboard in the computer system is more like a backbone, and that is true for a reason! All the components and peripherals, be it graphics card or hard disk, work in accordance only when you have the best functional motherboard.

Overheating of a PC is the one of those things that unnerves the user no matter if it is occasionally. Besides, when you talk about a motherboard you can’t just put off its solution. Ignoring the high temperature of your motherboard is a risky practice; you may also end up damaging your PC for good.

However, before diving into its solution it is crucial to know its cause parameters that become a reason for such high temperature. If you know the reason why it happens, the cure is always easier to opt for.

So let’s commence with the reasons first, and then to the ways to fix motherboard high temperatures.

Reasons Why Motherboard Gets Overheated

Motherboard Temperature

Usually, when you are facing high temperatures on a motherboard, there are few things that are the cause of it. You knowing or unknowingly keep using the computer in a way that is bad for overall performance for instance.

  1. Fans aren’t or working poorly

Improper working of fans can be the reason why your motherboard is getting overheated. Certainly, poor ventilation and lack of airflow make things heated up.

  1. Need more ventilation

If all the fans are working properly, you are still facing the rise in temperature; it might mean that the motherboard isn’t getting through ventilation. Besides, when the heats build up without having a way to escape, the high temperature is expected. If you are a gamer, high temp during gameplay means you need extra fans.

  1. The placement

Another reason for high temperature in  motherboards is the place where you’ve positioned your PC. If you have located it on a rug or a carpeted area the surface becomes unfriendly for the system for later on and results in overheating issues.

  1. Extended timings

Anything that doesn’t rest has to pay for it, so does the motherboard. If you keep using your system without any interruption (intentionally), it puts load on the motherboard to work properly and hence it starts to have high temperature.

  1. The room temperature

The temperature of your room or the area where you have placed your PC readily settles the internal temperature of the CPU component. For instance, if you are sitting beside the window and the sunlight is directly falling onto the CPU, you can assume the temperature.

  1. Bad Sensors

Sensors can be another reason for the high temperature of your mobo. If the sensors are faulty and reading the incorrect motherboard temperature the result would be out of sync.

Quick Steps For Motherboard Temperature Mitigation

Reducing the heat of your system is perhaps the concern of everybody, especially those who use heavy applications and computer software.

Luckily, there are multiple ways to fix the overheating or rise in temperature on the motherboard. Below we are presenting you the most doable tricks you can do to save you from further damage.

  1. Detach the Case

This is one of the common methods that many people do. Besides, if your PC case features a couture that prevents comprehensive airflow, opening up its case is a good way of keeping things cool and calm. Using a PC with an opened cabinet ensures better airflow to cool down the motherboard.

  1. Keep it Clean

If the fans are subjected to dust and have got jammed, consider cleaning them. You can also oil the bearing if needed.  Also make sure to increase the installed fans numbers if you are doing some work that puts pressure on the motherboard.

Usually when fans work beyond the expected RPM, the high temperature becomes obvious. Remember dust is the foe of PCs in every way!

  1. Using Cooling Pads

Cooling Pads

Another worthy approach to keep the motherboard cooled down is to install cooling pads! It is an appropriate way for both motherboards and laptops that cools off the temperature step by step. The cooling pad will absorb the heat and keep the device free from any damage. Just place the high-quality cooling pad under the system and that’s it.

  1. Supersede the Heat Sink

Replacing the heat sink is another way to fix the high temperature of the motherboard. Moreover, replacing the fan with a new and quality one is also important.

If the above methods failed to solve this situation, then immediately replace your system’s heat sink, including the fan. With the help of a heat sink, you get to have the best cooled internal environment of your PC.

Another benefit of the heat sink of the cooling pad is that the fan installed on the motherboard works to spread cool air that keeps the temperature in control.

  1. Consider replacement of HDD

hdd

Replacing the old component is a solution that many people might not know about. However, if you particularly talk about the HDD, it holds a special place in keeping the motherboard low in temperature.

As you know, how many latest laptops and computers use SSD (Solid-State Drive), rather than the older hard disk drives? The reason being HDDs are prone to produce more heat than that of SSDs!

So, if you are also using the hard disk drive in your PC and wondering about the high temperature, you know what to do__ right?

  1. Don’t Process Multiple System Requests

Like mentioned above, more fans become a requisite when you are processing some heavy commands. Similarly, if your computer is running multiple commands at a single time, its motherboard would overheat for sure.  More requests means more electric flow in the semi-conductors and hence high temperature is telling you its reason in a way.

Not only does it affect the performance but also you may end up damaging the system. To keep such incidents at length make sure you do not process several requests to the motherboard in one moment.

  1. Keep the Surface friendly

As said before, placing the computer on a carpeted surface is the reason for high temperatures in motherboards. You might have seen those tables and accessories that keep the laptop lifted from the surface; the reason is to keep it cool and for your ease as well. Besides, make sure not to place the laptop over a carpeted surface for a long time.

Although the motherboard can handle 60 Degree Celsius, yet the recommended or expected temperature of the motherboard when it is in non-working state should be 31 Degree Celsius.
